Evidence-based treatments tailored for you

Physiotherapy in Basingstoke

What is physiotherapy and how can it help?

Physiotherapy helps diagnose and treat pain affecting muscles, joints, ligaments and nerves. Whether symptoms developed gradually or after an injury, the aim is to reduce pain, restore movement and help you return to normal activity safely.

Education, advice, and exercises are the cornerstones of effective physiotherapy and achieve the best long term outcomes. That being said, I also believe adjunct treatments such as hands-on manual therapy, shockwave therapy and acupuncture can be an effective part of the evidence based treatment.

What are the benefits of physiotherapy?

The benefits of physiotherapy extend far beyond simple pain management, offering a comprehensive pathway to structural health and functional freedom. By identifying the root cause of physical dysfunction rather than merely masking symptoms, physiotherapy facilitates a complete return to form. Physiotherapy can help with:

  • Reducing pain and inflammation

  • Improve movement

  • Restore strength and stability

  • Build resilience to prevent recurrence

Answering your questions

  • Physiotherapy helps restore movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness, or disability. Physiotherapy can help with issues like back pain, sudden injury or managing long-term conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis. Physiotherapy can also assist in preparing and recovering from events like childbirth, surgery, or sporting activity.

Following personalised assessment, physiotherapists help people through movement and exercise, advice, education, and often utilise treatments like manual therapy. Patient involvement in their own care is often a key part of physiotherapy. This is commonly facilitated by promoting awareness and empowerment.

If necessary, a physiotherapist may recommend you’re seen by other specialists, for example a orthopaedic surgeon, pain specialist or rheumatologist.

  • The first session is primarily an information-gathering assessment, which directs and informs treatment and management options that will be recommended.

  • Please remember to bring any relevant information, such as scans, X-rays or medical reports, with you for your first appointment if you have them.

  • You will need to be able to move around comfortably in the physiotherapy appointment, so you will need to wear something comfortable. Sports clothing or gym kit is ideal.

Remember that I may need to see the affected area so try and wear something that you feel comfortable removing or moving for ease of access. I will ensure you are comfortable at all times.

  • Your first appointment will involve a full assessment so it will take up to 45 minutes. Follow-up appointments are between 30 to 60 minutes long, depending on your management plan.

Please be aware that I am legally required to make clinical notes to summarise the details of sessions and part of the appointment is commonly dedicated to completing the documentation. Whilst this is not active assessment or treatment, it is a vital part of the management of your case and contributes to effective care.

  • You are more than welcome to have someone chaperone you during your treatment. In some cases, a chaperone is compulsory, such as for children or someone with accessibility requirements.

  • Yes, there is plenty of parking directly outside the YourBodyGuru gym on the Dummer down farm. You can also park in the main Dummer down farm care park and walk down to the YourBodyGuru gym.

  • I am proud to offer my services to insurance clients. Please have your membership number and authorisation code. I accept AXA, Aviva, Bupa, Cigna, Healix, Vitality & WPA. I have agreed to specific rates with many providers, please be advised that when your policy has been exhausted, your treatment costs will revert to self funding rates.

If you are receiving treatment covered by Health Insurance and an invoice is being sent to you. This would be because your provider has returned the invoice unpaid and stated it is your responsibility to settle the bill. This may be for your excess, unauthorised treatment or your policy having been exhausted. Please follow the payment link in your email or SMS to pay the balance.
