Help with Arthritis management in Basingstoke
What is arthritis?
The word 'Arthritis' is used to describe pain, swelling and stiffness in a joint or joints. Arthritis isn’t a single condition. There are several different types.
Around 10 million people in the UK are thought to have arthritis. Finding out the type of arthritis you have is key to finding the right treatment and self-help options. Although there is no cure for arthritis, treatments have improved greatly in recent years and, for many types of arthritis, particularly inflammatory arthritis, there’s a clear benefit in starting treatment at an early stage.
It may be difficult to say what has caused your arthritis. There are several factors that can increase the risk of each type of arthritis. It could be that the genes you inherited from your parents or grandparents made you more likely to get arthritis.
Arthritis can make life tough by causing pain and making it harder to get about. The symptoms of arthritis can vary from week to week, and even from day to day. Many types, such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, are long-term conditions. However, with the right treatment and approach, i believe you can manage your symptoms effectively, allowing you to remain physically active and maintain your general health.

Focused shockwave therapy (FSWT) shows promise in promoting cartilage repair and reducing degeneration, primarily by stimulating mesenchymal stem cells, enhancing cartilage matrix production, and reducing inflammation in osteoarthritic joints. Studies indicate it can help preserve existing cartilage, promote cell regeneration, and improve joint function in conditions like knee osteoarthritis. Please note that studies thus far have only been completed on animals.

Acupuncture seems to relieve pain by diverting or changing the painful sensations that are sent to your brain from damaged tissues and by stimulating your body’s own pain-relieving hormones (endorphins and encephalins). This pain relief may only last a short time when you begin treatment, but repeated treatment (usually weekly for six or eight sessions) can bring long-term benefit to some people.
