Western Acupuncture for effective pain management
Acupuncture in Basingstoke
What is acupuncture and how can it help?
Western acupuncture is a derivative of traditional acupuncture. My acupuncture treatments are designed for those navigating the toll of chronic pain, neck pain and tension headaches.
By stimulating the nervous system to release its own natural healing chemicals, I can help you find the physical ease that traditional medicine alone may have missed.
What are the benefits of acupuncture?
There are many benefits of acupuncture including:
Effective Pain Relief
Headache Management
Stress & Anxiety Reduction

Answering your questions

The quality of evidence for acupuncture is mixed. Chronic pain, Neck pain and tension type headaches has moderate quality evidence whilst other musculoskeletal conditions such as lower back pain and osteoarthritis are no longer supported by the NICE guideline. Acupuncture will always be an adjunct treatment, with advice, education, exercises and activity management being the first.

Acupuncture is generally a safe procedure when performed by a trained and licensed healthcare professional. However, like any medical procedure, there are potential risks and side effects associated with acupuncture, such as minor bleeding or bruising at the site of the needle insertion, which usually occurs due to needles puncturing small blood vessels. This is usually harmless and resolves on its own. Other mild, short-term side effects include drowsiness, feeling sick, or feeling dizzy or faint. More serious side effects such as nerve damage or infection, can occur. However, these only happen in extremely rare cases.

The exact duration of an acupuncture session can vary depending on several factors, such as the condition being treated and the exact technique used. However, it typically lasts 30 – 60 minutes.
During the session, I will also discuss your medical history, assess your current health concerns, and develop a treatment plan that is personalised to your needs.
