Specialist care for foot pain and ankle pain in Basingstoke
Tell me about foot and ankle pain
We pound the streets every day, carrying all our weight, so it's hardly surprising that we sometimes experience foot and ankle pain.
Foot and ankle pain can come on gradually after standing and walking excessively, running or doing activities that involve lots of twisting, pivoting and repetitive jumping. Foot and ankle pain can also occur suddenly after incidents such as rolling, twisting or falling over.
Foot and ankle pain is typically due to either a ligament sprain, wear and tear of the joints, tendinopathy, plantar fasciitis, bursitis, a fracture or flat feet.
Understanding the pathology at the foot or ankle will dictate the treatment approach. I believe in educating my clients in the pathology as it will empower them to remain complaint, reducing the risk of treatment failure.

Heel pain refers to many conditions affecting the heel. Around 1 in 10 people will experience it in their lifetime. Getting an assessment may be needed to get an accurate diagnosis and determine the likely cause. The treatment plan for the heel pain will be dependent on the diagnosis.
Common causes of heel pain include:
Plantar fasciitis (insertional or non-insertional)
Abductor hallucis tendonitis
Heel fat pad syndrome
Heel spur syndrome
Baxter’s nerve entrapment or nerve referral pain

This is dependent on the nature and severity of the condition at the foot or ankle. For example, most cases of plantar fasciitis will recover within a 6-12 week timeline however some cases it can take a year or more.
